As per Reuters, this mainly targets lowering production expenses. Consequently, European car manufacturers will adopt a pattern established earlier by numerous Chinese car makers and the American firm Tesla.

JPMorgan states that the growing transition from copper by car manufacturers will result in a 2% drop in worldwide demand for the metal this year.

Experts consulted by Reuters indicate that, with increasing copper costs and supply uncertainties, additional car manufacturers might soon transition to more affordable aluminum. Additionally, officials from 18 car manufacturers interviewed by the newspaper indicated that, besides cutting expenses, utilizing aluminum also aids in decreasing vehicle weight.

Jonver, a Chinese provider of electrical and electric vehicle parts, observes that rising demand for aluminum in the automotive sector has caused the aluminum portion of its sales to rise from 20% in 2023 to 30% this year.
