"Apple today announced plans to introduce the "Tap to Pay" feature for iPhones. The new feature will allow millions of merchants in the U.S. ... to use their iPhone to easily and securely accept Apple Pay, contactless credit and debit cards and other digital wallets simply by touching their iPhone," the release states.

The company notes that no additional hardware is required for this feature to work, and it will be available for the iPhone XS and newer models.

Through "Tap to Pay," payments can be accepted from contactless bank cards, including American Express, Mastercard, Discover, and Visa, the release said. The first payment platform to feature "Tap to Pay" this spring will be Stripe, including Shopify Point of Sale. Other platforms will be able to introduce the feature later this year, the company said.
