This action by the office, which functions as Germany’s counterintelligence agency, will be monitored until the Cologne court delivers a ruling on the appeal submitted by Alternative for Germany.

Earlier this spring, the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution of Germany declared that it had gathered sufficient information to classify Alternative for Germany as an extremist party.

The party cautioned that it viewed the decision as politicized and pledged to pursue its reversal in court.
