Alphabet, Google’s parent company, has broadened its voluntary employee exit program that encompasses severance packages to more countries, according to Reuters.

The news agency reported that in June, the organization started providing voluntary departure choices to certain employees in Canada, France, Germany, Japan, and Switzerland. Google characterized the action as a progression in favor of its main strategic objectives.

According to Reuters, the firm aims to control escalating expenses while investing heavily in artificial intelligence (AI). These voluntary exit programs do not pertain to the company’s key divisions: Google Cloud and the AI research division DeepMind.

Comparable severance packages had been provided earlier to employees in the United States and the United Kingdom. According to Reuters, at least one of these offers was succeeded by a surge of involuntary layoffs.
