His 96-year-old father, who once occupied the position, has transitioned to the role of chairman emeritus. He received this status in acknowledgment of his "exceptional contributions to Berkshire and its shareholders."

Warren Buffett, involved with the company since 1965 and having recently transferred the CEO position to Greg Abel, will stay on the board of directors and continue to provide his "valuable judgment and insights."

Howard Buffett has been a member of Berkshire’s board since 1993. The company stated that the board appointed him as chairman following a well-established succession plan.

Since 1999, Howard Buffett has led the Howard G. Buffett Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to global food security and conflict resolution. He also worked for nearly ten years as a Goodwill Ambassador for the UN World Food Programme.
