Olivier Le Polain, head of the WHO's epidemiology unit, informed reporters that previous experience indicates the epidemic may first display signs of improvement, but the situation can quickly worsen thereafter.

"We cannot afford to relax our vigilance; rather, we should intensify our efforts to achieve advancement," he was quoted by the EFE news agency on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, it was announced that the Ebola outbreak's death count had surpassed 3,500, with over 7,200 verified infection cases. Simultaneously, officials indicated that the peak of the epidemic had already occurred.
