Over 90% of states reported failures of services in key areas of medicine, including treatment for cancer, mental illness, HIV and hepatitis. This is evidenced by results of a study conducted by WHO.

"The results of this latest study, conducted in late 2021, show that health systems in all regions and countries of all income levels continue to be severely impacted, with little to no improvement since the beginning of 2021, when the previous study was conducted," the organization said in a statement.

It reported that 92 percent of the 129 countries in the study reported failures in health care delivery.

These were in all major areas of health systems, such as sexual, reproductive, newborn, child and adolescent health, cancer treatment, immunizations, mental and neurological disorders, HIV, hepatitis and tuberculosis.

Increases in health care and routine care failures have been noted despite increases in vaccination against COVID.

In addition, 36% of countries reported disruptions in emergency services, 32% reported disruptions in 24-hour emergency departments, and 23% reported disruptions in emergency surgery.
