The Italian brand is one of the 600 entities owned by VW that are part of the review, Gernot Döllner, Audi's CEO (which is part of the VW Group), stated in an interview with the news agency.
Talks about Ducati's future are included in a continuing evaluation of business performance at VW, a firm dedicated to "responsible and disciplined portfolio management," Döllner mentioned. He added that no choices have been finalized so far.

Ducati was established in Bologna in 1926 by the Ducati brothers, Adriano, Bruno, and Marcello. At first, the firm focused on radio devices. It started making motorcycles only after World War II; now, it creates around 50,000 motorcycles each year. The company produced €925 million in revenue and an operating profit of €52 million last year.
In 2012, Ducati was acquired by Audi. The issue of selling the Italian brand emerged in 2017, when Harley-Davidson Inc., based in the US, showed interest in acquiring it.
VW is performing an extensive evaluation of its assets to reduce expenses and enhance competitiveness. Earlier in September, the supervisory board of the group greenlit a restructuring strategy involving significant workforce cuts, reducing the model range by half, and possibly shutting down multiple factories in Germany.
