Verizon names Dan Schulman from PayPal its CEO

The Verizon Communications Board of Directors has named Dan Schulman, the former CEO of PayPal Holdings Inc., as its new Chief Executive Officer.

He will take over for Hans Vestberg. The change is effective immediately, as stated in a press release.

Mark Bertolini has been appointed Chair of the Board.

Vestberg will remain on the Verizon Board until the 2026 annual shareholder meeting. He will also act as a Special Advisor until October 4 of next year to facilitate a seamless handover.

Vestberg is also concentrating on finalizing the establishment of Frontier Communications Parent Inc. Verizon unveiled this wholesale internet service provider in early September and anticipates its development will be finished in the first quarter of 2026.

Dan Schulman has served in executive roles at AT&T, Priceline, Virgin Mobile, and American Express. He became a Verizon board member in 2018 and was chosen as the lead independent director in December 2024.

On Monday, the firm's shares declined 0.2% in pre-market trading. The company's market value has increased 9.2% so far this year (to $184 billion), whereas the Dow Jones Industrial Average has gained 9.9% in the same period.
