Most US states have decided to sue Google over the company's control of the Android app shop. This was reported by Politico.

A total of 36 states - including Utah, North Carolina, Tennessee, New York, Arizona, Colorado, Iowa and Nebraska - as well as Washington, D.C., have joined the proceedings.

It is noted that this is the third such lawsuit over alleged antitrust violations by Google.

The US Department of Justice and several supporting states sued Google last year for abusing its dominant position in search advertising. In a later lawsuit, a group of states, led by Texas, focused on the company's anti-competitive behaviour in the online environment.

In addition, Google has also attracted the interest of the European Union's antitrust authorities. They are about to launch a formal investigation into the company's suspiciously lucrative digital advertising business.
