In his remarks on the report, UN Secretary General António Guterres noted that "some indicators are not just the highest, they are too high, the climate change is happening faster and faster".

The effects of climate change, according to him, are "abrupt, violent, and increasing with deadly force."

The WMO research states that 2023 hit records in terms of global ocean temperature rise, carbon dioxide emissions, Earth's surface temperature, and glacier melting.

The WMO added that "wreaking misery and havoc" is the term used to describe the effects of heatwaves, floods, droughts, uncontrolled wildfires, and strengthening tropical cyclones, which are claiming millions of lives and generating billions of dollars in economic damage.

At that, the UN secretary-general note that "the worst of climate chaos can still be avoided." In order to do this, he recommended, among other things, quickening the process of giving up fossil fuels and creating national strategies to tackle climate change, which will have an impact on every nation's economic structure and ensure that the 1.5 degree Celsius objective is not exceeded.
