The UK authorities intend to create a long-term investment fund that will focus on economic recovery and also issue the first sovereign green bonds, Finance Minister Rishi Sunak said.

The long-term investment fund, which is scheduled to be established within a year, is expected to receive pension funds.

"In order to encourage UK pension funds to channel their half a trillion pounds of capital into our recovery, I am committed to launching the first UK long-term asset fund within a year," the Minister promised without further details.

The MoF also intends to issue the first green government bonds in 2021 to "help firms and investors better understand the impact of their investments on the environment".

"This will be the first issue in a series of new issues as we expect to build a green yield curve in the coming years helping to finance climate change projects, finance much-needed infrastructure investments and create green jobs across the country," Sunak said in his address to Parliament.
