The Unite union, representing over 3,000 Airbus engineers and assemblers, is set to stage protests on September 2-3 and September 10-11. Additional dates for strikes in the latter part of the month have not been established yet. Ninety percent of union members who participated in the ballot supported the strike. It will occur if the aircraft manufacturer does not provide increased salaries.
Unite states that the demonstrations might hinder the manufacturing of wings for Airbus commercial and military planes and postpone deliveries.
Airbus stated it is “not presently worried about the effects on deliveries later in the year,” according to Reuters. The plane manufacturer stated it had presented a “competitive and fair” salary proposal in 2025, after prior salary hikes exceeding 20% over the last three years, along with a bonus surpassing £2,600 ($3,600) in April.
The Unite union stated it requested the company to provide pay proposals that reflect increasing inflation and the cost of living. Data published earlier on Wednesday indicated that UK consumer prices increased by 3.8% in July, marking the largest surge in 18 months.
