Trump stated during an interview with Axios that he needs to be part of the appointment process, similar to how he was involved when [interim President] Delcy Rodriguez was in charge in Venezuela.

He mentioned that he would not support a new leader who would continue to implement the policies of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was previously killed in an Israeli-American operation.  He mentioned that if that situation occurred, the United States would need to take military action in Iran again within five years.

The President of the White House said that he finds it unacceptable for Mojtaba, the son of Ali Khamenei, to run for candidacy.

Trump stressed the importance of finding someone who can bring harmony and peace to Iran.

On Wednesday, news appeared indicating that the selection of a new Iranian leader might be delayed until the following week.  Moreover, according to reports from several media sources, it was reported that the decision was made in favor of Mojtaba, the son of Ali Khamenei.
