He stated on the social media platform Truth Social that "effective immediately, any country conducting business with the Islamic Republic of Iran will be required to pay a 25% tariff on all transactions with the United States of America."

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt noted that the president is evaluating military actions against Iran but favors a diplomatic approach.

"President Trump is very skilled at keeping all options open, and airstrikes could be one of several options available to our Commander-in-Chief," she explained to reporters.

Levitt also mentioned that "diplomacy is always the president's top priority."

She added that the US president "is not hesitant to consider military options if he determines it is necessary, and Iran is well aware of this."
