In an interview with the Financial Times on Monday night, Trump stated, "I believe China should also contribute, as China obtains 90% of its oil via that strait."

The American leader mentioned that he would like to understand Beijing's stance prior to his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, which is planned to take place at the end of the month.

"We'd like to know in advance. That two weeks left before the visit to Beijing is a long time," Trump added.

Earlier, the US president said that officials from multiple countries had come to an agreement to take part in ensuring the safety of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

"They not only agreed, but they think it's a great idea," Trump said in an interview with NBC News, without mentioning which countries he was talking about.

On Saturday, the American president stated his view that the security in the Strait of Hormuz should be handled by the nations that rely on the strait for their oil supply. He also mentioned that the United States is prepared to work together with these countries to achieve a swift and effective resolution.

Trump also mentioned that China, France, Japan, South Korea, the United Kingdom, and other nations impacted by the closure of the strait should dispatch their naval vessels to the area to guarantee security.

The White House stated that President Trump will travel to China from March 31 through April 2. This will mark the first visit by a currently serving US president to the country since the year 2017.
