According to the plan, out of the roughly $700 million in funding, $425 million is intended to modernize and extend the operational life of 13 coal-fired power plants that would have been shut down in the near future.
Another 75 million dollars will be allocated for the construction of the West Gateway export terminal located in Oakland, California.
$185 million has been set aside for the development of two new coal-powered electricity plants in Alaska and West Virginia—marking the first such projects in the United States since 2013.
Some of this funding will also be directed to an energy company that wants to reopen a coal-fired power plant that has been closed in Maryland.
