US President Donald Trump stated that he is increasing tariffs on South Korean products from 15% to 25%.

He explained this decision in a post on the social media platform Truth Social, saying, "Because the Korean Parliament has not ratified our historic trade agreement, as they are entitled to do, I am now raising tariffs on South Korean cars, wood, medicines, and all other goods covered by reciprocal tariffs from 15% to 25%."

The American leader claimed that the South Korean legislature is not meeting its responsibilities to the United States. In response the South Korean government said that the US had not officially informed Seoul about the decision to raise tariffs.

Yonhap news agency reported that the South Korean presidential administration noted, "So far, no official notice or explanation regarding the details has been received from the US government."

The agency notes that Presidential Chief of Staff for Political Affairs Kim Yong-beom plans to hold an interdepartmental meeting to discuss the government's response.

Meanwhile, South Korean Industry Minister Kim Jeong-kwan, who is currently in Canada, intends to visit the United States soon to meet with US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick.
