In April 2023, Koji Sato took over as the CEO of Toyota, following Akio Toyoda, who is the grandson of the company's founder. Sato will therefore resign from his role as CEO after serving in that position for only three years. The company has announced that he will take on the role of vice chairman of the board of directors starting from April 2026.

Toyota Motor stated that under the new leadership structure, Sato will concentrate on broader industry goals, whereas Kon will be responsible for managing internal company operations. The company stated that these changes are designed to help management make decisions more quickly.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Toyota announced that its net profit for the third quarter of its fiscal year amounted to 1.257 trillion yen, which is approximately $8 billion. This represents a 43% decline compared to the same period in the prior fiscal year.
