Tokyo has secured the top position in the ranking by the Swiss International Workplace Group (IWG) for the best cities that blend remote work and leisure.

According to the IWG report, the Japanese capital secured the top spot in 2025 due to its fast internet, advanced transport network, safety, cultural variety, and the recent introduction of special visas for remote foreign workers.

Another benefit of Tokyo is its closeness to mountains, beaches, and national parks. IWG states that this city is perfect for individuals who enjoy working in an urban setting while also being able to access nature.

In creating the ranking, IWG considered various criteria such as housing and infrastructure for remote work, public transport development, climate conditions, the appeal of local cuisine, and options for cultural leisure.

This year, IWG also examined the accessibility and expense of a visa that allows foreigners to reside and work remotely in the country for the first time.

Along with Tokyo, the IWG's top 10 also featured Rio de Janeiro, Budapest, Seoul, Barcelona, Beijing, Lisbon, Rome, Paris, and Valletta.
