According to sources familiar with the plans, the U.S. is getting ready to impose a 200% levy on imports of Russian aluminum, writes Bloomberg.

The U.S. government is extremely concerned about harm to American industry, especially aerospace and autos, and U.S. President Joe Biden has not yet consented to impose the barrier taxes, according to the agency's sources.

They claim that the choice, which has been discussed for months and targets Russia as the second-largest producer of aluminum in the world, might be made by the end of the week. Requests for comments from the CIA were not immediately answered by the US National Security Council.

The agency said that the actions against Russian aluminum are part of ongoing efforts by the United States and the European Union to undermine Russia's position as a major global hub for commodities. It notes that there are currently no signs that the EU is preparing a comparable action against Russian aluminum.
