The unexpected course of events is due to the fact that Legere has become one of the leading contenders for the post of WeWork's CEO. Mike Sievert, who is currently Chief Operating Officer and President at T-Mobile, will take his position. The firm reported that Legere will remain a member of the board of directors and will help the company in the upcoming acquisition of competing Sprint.

Sprint is ruled by the Japanese investment colossus SoftBank, that also owns a controlling stake in WeWork. However, during the last conference call Legere noted  that he didn't negotiated with WeWork. T-Mobile shares were somehow down on Monday, while Sprint shares were up nearly 1%.

Legere said he aims to finalize the agreement with Sprint in the past few months as CEO. The merger was approved by regulatory authorities in the US.
