The union thinks this strike might become the biggest in the company's past.

The work stoppage started on November 13th across 65 stores in 40 cities in the US. It happened simultaneously with Starbucks' famous yearly Red Cup Day event. As a part of this offer, customers get a reusable red cup featuring a unique design with the purchase of a seasonal beverage, a prized collectible for numerous Starbucks enthusiasts.

Workers United aims for better working conditions at Starbucks, requesting increased wages and extended hours for hourly employees, along with the settlement of labor conflicts.

In early December, New York City Mayor Eric Adams revealed that Starbucks had consented to pay $38.9 million to resolve city lawsuits concerning breaches of local regulations mandating fast-food chain workers to have stable and predictable work schedules. Adams noted that the company breached this requirement over 500,000 times in three years.

Out of this total, $35.5 million will be allocated as compensation for over 15,000 Starbucks employees, while $3.4 million will go towards fines and legal expenses, as stated in the settlement agreement signed on November 26.
