Asian online fashion retailer Shein is set to launch its initial physical stores in France in November through a partnership with department store operator Societe des Grands Magasins (SGM), according to Reuters.

Shein intends to start selling at the BHV department store in central Paris and at Galeries Lafayette locations in five additional cities nationwide. This signifies a new achievement for the retailer, which has only previously run pop-up shops in different cities globally.

SGM CEO Frédéric Merlin anticipates that the launch of Shein stores will draw younger shoppers to the department stores.

Nonetheless, Galeries Lafayette is against the brand's existence in stores that operate under its name and are run by SGM through a franchise agreement. The management of Galeries Lafayette views this action as a breach of the franchise agreement and plans to stop it.

"Galeries Lafayette firmly opposes this decision because the fast fashion brand's positioning and practices conflict with our values and offerings," the group stated.

Shein was established in China in 2008, with most of its suppliers based in that nation. Shein is now based in Singapore.
