The American firm stated it would collaborate with Samsung's semiconductor facility in Austin, Texas, “to develop groundbreaking chip manufacturing technology that has not been utilized before.”

Although the company hasn't disclosed the specific technology to be used, insiders familiar with the agreement have indicated that the Korean firm will produce the image sensor for the iPhone 18, anticipated to launch next year.

This indicates that Japan's Sony, which manufactures image sensors for Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, will not be Apple's exclusive supplier anymore.

The Financial Times highlights that Samsung's agreement with Apple signifies a restoration of their relationship following tensions during the 2010s due to patent conflicts.
