Repsol declared that the hydrogen production electrolysis facility, using oxygen and water, will possess a capacity of 100 MW, generating as much as 15,000 tons of hydrogen and cutting carbon dioxide emissions by 167,000 tons each year.
The project, valued at €300 million, has been recognized as a strategic investment by the European Union (IPCEI) and has gained backing from the Spanish government. The Spanish Institute for Diversification and Energy Saving (IDAE) will provide financing of €155 million.
Repsol states that the initiative, executed in collaboration with Enagas Renovable, which owns a 25% share in the venture, will generate around 900 jobs. The commissioning is planned for 2029.
The firm emphasizes that renewable hydrogen generation will play a crucial role in the Murcia Hydrogen Valley project and will facilitate the eventual incorporation of additional capacity into the gas transmission system and the national hydrogen corridor.
Repsol is the leading hydrogen producer in the Iberian Peninsula, representing roughly 60% of the country's output and 4% of the hydrogen consumption in Europe.
