The assault on a tanker owned by an emirate in the Strait of Hormuz this week has raised worries that navigating this route remains excessively hazardous.
Qatar Energy representatives conducted several meetings, leading the company's CEO, Saad al-Kaabi, to opt against increasing production at the Ras Laffan complex, sources reported. Operations at the complex will be maintained at a minimal level for security purposes, and access for vessels to the facility will be limited in the upcoming days.
On July 7, a Qatari LNG tanker was hit and damaged while leaving the strait near the coast of Oman. Iran was held responsible by Qatari authorities for the damage.
In mid-June, Bloomberg indicated that Qatar aimed to resume half of its LNG output, halted because of the Middle East conflict, within a month after the Strait of Hormuz reopened for free navigation. The nation's officials anticipated regaining most of its export capability in two months.
