As per sources from the newspaper, Nvidia's CEO Jensen Huang talked about the proposal with the city's mayor Gong Zheng during a meeting in Shanghai in April.

Nvidia is renting a new office in Shanghai to house existing employees with the possibility to grow, according to the FT.

Sources added that the new R&D center is anticipated to concentrate on the particular needs of Chinese customers, considering the intricate technical demands to adhere to the limits set by Washington. Nonetheless, the real chip creation and manufacturing will stay beyond China.

The firm announced that it does not plan to relocate any technology to China for alteration while adhering to US export regulations.

The team of experts in Shanghai will likewise engage in global R&D initiatives, which encompass chip validation, enhancement of current products, and creation of technologies tailored to specific industries, including autonomous driving, according to the sources.
