Nvidia Corporation intends to make a significant investment in OpenAI, the company behind the ChatGPT chatbot, as part of an upcoming funding round, according to the company’s CEO Jensen Huang.

Huang previously refuted reports from earlier media outlets that he was unhappy with the letter of intent signed with OpenAI in September, which outlined Nvidia's commitment to invest $100 billion in the company.

The Wall Street Journal had previously noted that discussions about the agreement hit a roadblock early in the process because Nvidia was uncertain. According to the newspaper's sources, Huang personally stressed to industry representatives that the agreement was not binding.

He also pointed out that OpenAI lacks discipline in its business strategy and raised concerns regarding competition from AI models developed by Alphabet Inc. and Anthropic.

Huang told reporters in Taipei that the $100 billion investment agreement with OpenAI "was never a commitment." He explained, "They invited us to invest up to $100 billion, and of course we were pleased and flattered, but we will invest gradually, step by step."
