The National Immigration Administration of China published the statistics on March 8. The agency also noted a 33.1% rise in the number of visas and residence permits granted to foreign nationals.

The numbers show a sharp rise in cross-border travel and tourist activity as Chinese officials ease COVID-19 restrictions.

China, among others, lifted the quarantine for foreign visitors in December. For the first time since the pandemic started, on February 25, there were more inbound or outbound border crossings than there were outbound, reaching 1.013 million.
