Tesla founder and CEO Elon Musk has donated $5.7 billion worth of Tesla stock to charity, according to documents filed by the billionaire with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

During the period from November 19 to November 29, 2021, the richest man in the world donated 5.044 million shares of Tesla stock, their value at the time reached $5.7 billion. It is a "bona fide gift" to charity, the SEC document noted. The charity that received the stock is not specified.

Shortly before the stock donation, on Oct. 31, 2021, Musk promised to give $6 billion to the World Food Program (WFP) if UN officials could explain to him how the money would solve world hunger. The billionaire wrote this on Twitter in response to calls from WFP director David Beasley for billionaires to provide $6.6 billion in immediate aid.

Bloomberg reminds that Musk also has his own Musk Foundation, which has stepped up its activities in recent years by pledging donations to a city near the SpaceX spaceport in South Texas, holding a $100 million competition on the topic of removing carbon from the atmosphere and making grants for COVID-19 research.
