According to a statement from Maersk, the partnership with Elon Musk's SpaceX would improve remote ship support and inspection processes, transfer business applications to the cloud, and ease the workload for ship employees while also contributing to cost savings.

The choice to link every ship to the Starlink system was taken following a trial study involving roughly thirty Maersk container ships. Satellite internet connection is anticipated for the whole fleet of the corporation by the first quarter of 2024.

SpaceX has previously been sent into orbit over 5.2 thousand Starlink satellites, with over 4.8 thousand of those still operational.
