“We will expedite our French-German initiatives, and we will enhance our capabilities. Along with tanks, combat aircraft, and long-range missiles, we will set up a French-German defense and security council that will convene regularly to address our shared strategic challenges operationally,” Macron stated in Paris during a joint press conference with Merz.

The president referred to Germany's choice to draw significant defense investments as historic.

He also stated that the two parties are quickening this "strategic rise" after the March European Council meeting that addressed EU defense issues and executed a plan suggested by the European Commission to draw both public and private investment for defense priorities and significant investments in the industrial and technological foundation of European defense.
