The Italian automaker Lamborghini will stop producing only cars with internal combustion engines next year, the head of the company Stephan Winkelmann told Bloomberg.

He said Lamborghini will unveil its first plug-in hybrid in 2023, a car equipped with both a traditional and electric motor that can be charged while driving or from the mains. In 2024, the manufacturer plans to electrify its entire range, and after 2025 it will introduce a full electric car.

Lamborghini is still working on the final design of its first electric car and is leaning towards a four-door model suitable for everyday use, Winkelmann said. He added the carmaker has allocated a record €1.5 billion to switch to electric cars and hybrids.

Lamborghini was founded in 1963 in Italy. The company is now owned by the Volkswagen Group through its subsidiary Audi AG. The Lamborghini range consists exclusively of the Huracan, Aventador and Urus petrol cars, excluding small production cars based on them and concept cars.
