Google informed staff on June 24 that anyone wishing to transfer to a state where the procedure is still permitted might do so after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, a 1973 ruling that secured the right to an abortion at the federal level.
In the company's response to the legal changes, human resources executive Fiona Cicconi wrote that, among other things, Google policy states that employees can "apply for relocation without excusing circumstances" and that, when the request is reviewed, the individuals in charge of the employee relocation process "will be aware of the situation."
The executive also mentioned in the statement that the business would change the terms of employee health insurance policies so that they would cover out-of-state medical procedures if those services were unavailable where the employee lived and worked.
