Germany's RWE has entered into a final purchase agreement to supply 1 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) for a period of 20 years with Texas LNG Brownsville LLC. The LNG project, which has a total production capacity of 4 million tonnes of LNG annually, is being developed by Glenfarne Group in Texas.

The specific terms of the contract have not been disclosed, but it is mentioned that RWE might supply LNG to various locations in Europe and around the world. In the US, LNG is typically sold on a FOB (Free On Board) basis.

Glenfarne has now converted all previously announced preliminary agreements related to Texas LNG into fully binding long-term purchase contracts. The company is currently focusing on finalizing the financing process as it prepares to make a final investment decision in early 2026.

Earlier, a sales agreement was signed with international trader Gunvor for 0.5 million tonnes of LNG annually on a FOB basis, and another 0.5 million tonnes was agreed with an affiliate of Texas LNG.

The American company EQT has also signed a tolling agreement to provide liquefaction services for 2 million tonnes of LNG annually over a 20-year period.

The project's IPR (Investment Plan Review) was expected to be approved by US regulators in 2024, with the plant scheduled to start operations in 2028.
