The use of liquefied shale gas is much more harmful to the climate than the supply of conventional gas via pipelines, according to the German Ministry of the Environment.

The German government considers liquefied natural gas (LNG), produced using controversial hydraulic fracturing (fracking) technology, as harmful to the climate as coal.

This is stated in the response of the German Ministry of the Environment to the request of the "green" faction in the Bundestag, which was reported on Sunday, October 11, by the portal Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland.

In addition, liquefied gas is much more harmful to the environment than gas supplied through gas pipelines, produced from conventional fields. In general, the agency believes that natural gas during the transition period can replace coal and oil, but when assessing environmental damage, it is necessary to take into account air emissions from mining and transportation.

At the same time, the use of shale gas, even if it is produced in Germany, does not have a positive effect on the achievement of Germany's goals in the field of climate protection.

In addition, fracking gas production poses serious risks to other natural resources, in particular soil and groundwater, as indicated below.
