Macron spoke at the Elysee Palace, where he hosted Abbas, and said the work on the new constitution will focus on creating all the necessary conditions for establishing a Palestinian state.

The committee is expected to cover "all legal aspects," including "constitutional, institutional, and organizational" matters. Macron explained that Abbas had already provided him with a draft constitution. Abbas expressed his willingness to start work on the joint committee right away.

He also reaffirmed his commitment to reforming the Palestinian Authority, including holding elections soon. These elections could happen "one year after the transition to the second phase of the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip," which involves the disarmament of Hamas.

Regarding this, Macron stated that "France does not want to see Hamas regain control of Gaza." He emphasized the need for the "demilitarization and dismantling of Hamas."

In September, Macron announced at the UN General Assembly in New York that France would officially recognize Palestine as a state.
