Draghi suggested steps to deal with the situation during an informal meeting of European leaders in Belgium on February 12.  The conversation specifically addressed the need to remove obstacles that hinder the smooth operation of the EU's single market, proposed changes to stock market regulations, and emphasized the importance of making better use of European savings.  Draghi also suggested lowering energy expenses and giving priority to European manufacturers in specific industries.

In addition, Draghi emphasized the importance of "participating in the EU decision-making process" and mentioned the possibility of speeding it up if required.

In 2024, upon request from European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Draghi produced a report, referred to as the "Draghi Report," in which he examined the challenges facing the EU economy and suggested potential reform strategies.  The document provided suggestions aimed at enhancing the industry, the defense sector, digitalization efforts, and the process of market integration.  Many of these ideas served as the foundation for the "Competitiveness Compass," which is the European Commission's strategic document.
