"Since the onset of the conflict in the Middle East, our expenses for importing fossil fuels have risen by over €24 billion. That's over €500 million each day. These expenses are currently impacting households and enterprises throughout Europe. However, the actual impacts of this crisis will be lasting. It is changing," he remarked during a press conference.

The European Commissioner, together with Executive Vice-President Teresa Ribera, unveiled an urgent action plan to address the significant increase in energy prices triggered by the conflict in the Middle East and to hasten Europe's shift to clean energy – AccelerateEU.

The strategy outlines synchronized efforts to enact urgent actions to address the energy crisis at both the Union and specific member states. It encompasses actions designed to shield consumers and businesses from sudden price increases, including a state aid initiative for those most impacted by the crisis.

It involves initiatives to speed up the shift to local clean energy and promote investment in the energy transformation. It aims to modernize the EU energy framework by speeding up grid expansion and aiding the electricity industry through favorable tax policies.
