"We are actively tracking the safety of electricity distribution throughout Europe. We are specifically observing this due to the unusual heat and drought conditions. The key point is that there is no reason to be concerned about supply security. Resources are consistent. They remained stable even throughout yesterday's solar eclipse," said EC spokesperson Eva Hrnčirová during a briefing in Brussels on Thursday.
She mentioned that "the situation is, of course, made more complex by heat waves, resulting from decreased electricity production in certain EU nations caused by low water levels, though overall the situation remains stable."
Hrnčirová added that a meeting of the Electricity Coordination Group, with representatives from EU nations and the Energy Community, took place on August 11.
The EC has earlier mentioned that systems for emergency electricity exchange among EU nations have been established in cases of emergencies, like rivers becoming shallower due to excessive heat.
