The European Commission has initiated an inquiry into Red Bull, an energy drink company. According to the Financial Times, the regulator is looking into whether the Austrian firm has misused its strong position in the market.

The EC believes Red Bull may have created a strategy across Europe that affected the sales of other energy drinks that are bigger than 250 ml in stores like supermarkets and gas stations, especially in the Netherlands. The Commission suggests this plan might have targeted energy drinks made by Red Bull's main competitor, though they did not name the company.

The investigation will look at whether Red Bull offered money or other benefits to make it harder for other companies to sell their bigger energy drinks, such as by putting them on less visible shelves.

In March 2023, authorities searched Red Bull’s main office and other company locations. The company took legal action against these searches in the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg. Red Bull argued that the investigation lacked proper justification. They also claimed the probe was swayed too much by data from their competitor, Monster Energy. The court recently rejected their case.
