"The EU summit on Thursday will also discuss energy prices. This is a very acute and urgent problem. Rising energy prices have become a problem for many EU countries... From our point of view, the European Commission has done a good job here... in investigating allegations of market manipulation," the source said, adding that these studies have demonstrated that "there is no evidence of market manipulation yet".

European Council President Charles Michel, in an invitation letter to European leaders, also said the EU summit in Brussels would discuss energy prices, the coronavirus pandemic, EU cooperation with NATO and the situation on the Russia-Ukraine border and around Belarus.

The last EU summit of 2021 will be held on December 16 in Brussels in a face-to-face format. It will be preceded by an EU-Eastern Partnership summit on 15 December.
