“Today we obtained the final document from the United States for ongoing negotiations. We are evaluating it. Our message today is straightforward: we are prepared for an agreement. Simultaneously, we are getting ready for the chance that a satisfactory agreement may not be achieved,” she stated at a press conference in Brussels on Friday evening following the conclusion of the EU summit.

In this context, von der Leyen mentioned that the attendees “discussed the rebalancing list.” “We will protect European interests if needed. To sum up, every option is still available,” stated the EC President.

She added that she updated the leaders of EU nations regarding the status of trade discussions with Washington. Von der Leyen recalled that the EC and the US decided to speed up the work with a specific target: to finalize an agreement by July 9.
