Dubai has started issuing multi-entry permits to employees of international companies. The permits are valid for five years, wrote Crown Prince of Dubai Hamdan bin Mohammed on Twitter.
"Our aim is to help organisations and allow their teams to travel in and out of Dubai quickly and easily to attend meetings, conferences and exhibitions throughout the year," the prince said.
Foreigners make up more than 90% of Dubai's population and have been the backbone of the economy for decades: they work in the private sector and spend money on real estate and shopping, Bloomberg notes.
In September, the United Arab Emirates introduced "green visas" for foreign workers who are not tied to specific companies or employers. These visas are intended for investors and professionals with a high level of training, as well as top students and graduates, Bloomberg wrote. People who lose their jobs will be able to stay in the Arab Emirates on this visa for another 180 days.
The Arab Emirates is simplifying the rules to attract investment and foreigners and help the economy recover from the pandemic, Reuters wrote. The country also needs talent to compete with Saudi Arabia for status as the main trading and business region in the Middle East, the agency said.
