Chinese officials have stated that they will implement additional actions against Japan if Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi does not disassociate herself from her remarks about the situation involving Taiwan, according to a statement from the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Mao Ning, on Wednesday.

Mao Ning, as reported by the South China Morning Post, said that China will be compelled to take strict and resolute countermeasures, and Japan will be held entirely accountable for these actions. She highlighted that Takaichi's comments are damaging the political relationship between China and Japan. She also addressed reports that China might stop importing Japanese seafood due to the controversy.

Mao Ning pointed out that Tokyo had promised to guarantee the safety of imported goods but had yet to provide the required documents. "In the current situation, even if China exported Japanese seafood, there would be no market for it," she said.

Previously, Kyodo News Agency reported, based on a source, that China had informed Japan of its decision to suspend seafood imports due to environmental concerns. The agency noted that this decision came as tensions between Beijing and Tokyo increased because of Takaichi's remarks on Taiwan.

In November, Takaichi mentioned that the emergency situation around Taiwan, which involves the use of force, might develop into a "life-threatening situation" for Japan. In such a scenario, Tokyo could invoke its right to collective self-defense. However, Chinese authorities see the Taiwan issue as an internal affair and have asked Takaichi to retract her statements.

Beijing has also advised its citizens to avoid traveling to Japan and has suggested that those planning to study in the country should reconsider their plans due to the security situation.
