Bloomberg has forecasted the time it will take countries to vaccinate 75% of the population.

The agency based its calculations on current vaccination rates in advanced countries and the volume of vaccines delivered. Three-quarters of the population is the fraction of people that scientists believe is necessary to build up collective immunity, although the estimate is rather vague, the agency said.

According to Bloomberg calculations, Israel is just two months away from the target. The state has 57 doses for every 100 people, 20.9% of the population has already been fully vaccinated and 36.1% of the country’s residents have received at least one dose. The UK and USA stand a good chance of vaccinating three-quarters of all people this year: they have seven and nine months to do so respectively. In the US, vaccination rates vary from state to state: in Hawaii it takes eight months to vaccinate 75% of the population, while in New York it takes 17 months.

Europe lags far behind the US and Israel in vaccination rates. Switzerland and Denmark, which were among the European "front-runners", need at least two years to vaccinate 75% of the population. Italy, Spain and Germany need about three years (with a few months' difference) and France - almost four years.

Canada is an "outsider" among the countries listed by Bloomberg: the country has so far delivered 2.7 doses per 100 people, only 1.6% of the population have been vaccinated at least for the first dose, only 0.3% of the population have received both doses. At this rate, the country will vaccinate three-quarters of its population in only 9.7 years, Bloomberg estimates.
