Analysts have ranked the world's best airlines for passenger safety and comfort. This year, an important criterion was the carriers' response to the global coronavirus pandemic. First place went to Qatar Airways, previously ranked only ninth.

The first place in the ranking of the best airlines went to Qatar Airways, the Qatari carrier. The company managed to achieve the first position thanks to the "innovations in the aircraft cabin", the quality of service on board and the "readiness to continue working during the COVID-19 pandemic", experts noted.

Qatar Airways was also the first airline to pass the International Air Transport Association safety audit and one of the first to test the Covid Safe Travel Pass for vaccinated passengers, AirlineRatings.com wrote. In last year's list, the carrier was only ranked ninth.

Air New Zealand, which has topped the list six times in the past eight years, dropped to second place in 2021. Nevertheless, experts praised its "constant innovation and leadership in the industry". Third place went to Singapore Airlines, which came in second last year. The Australian carrier Qantas and Emirates Airline from the United Arab Emirates were also in the top five.

To be included in the ranking, airlines had to have "seven safety stars", which are awarded after analyzing the history of accidents and other incidents, government audits, and now also based on a number of pandemic criteria, such as the level of cabin cleaning, social distancing and the wearing of masks by flight attendants. Of the 350 carriers analysed by AirlineRatings.com experts, only 150 companies received all seven stars.
