AWS said it will invest an extra 7 trillion Korean won, which is about $4.89 billion, between 2025 and 2031 to improve its AI infrastructure in the country. This brings the total amount AWS has invested in South Korea to 12.6 trillion won. So far, the company has already put in 5.6 trillion won in the country.

AWS is working with SK Group, a big South Korean company, to build a data center in Ulsan. SK Group said the data center will be the biggest in South Korea once it is completed by 2027.

The new South Korean government, led by President Lee Jae-myung, sees the AI industry as one of the main areas that can help the country's economy grow, as reported by The Wall Street Journal. Seoul wants to make South Korea one of the top three AI centers in the world.
