The two companies will examine and categorize waste from Acea Ambiente’s facilities to evaluate its compatibility with Versalis’ recycling methods. The main goal is to establish a cohesive industrial supply chain that can manufacture high-quality recycled plastics, potentially involving investments in new facilities and the enhancement of current processes, the partners stated in a press release.

The agreement additionally encompasses a collaborative evaluation of chemical recycling methods for retrieving plastic waste that cannot be mechanically processed.

Versalis CEO Adriano Alfani mentioned that last March the company inaugurated a facility in Porto Marghera (Venice) dedicated to manufacturing plastics from mechanically recycled materials, which can produce up to 20,000 tons of crystalline polystyrene (r-GPPS) and expandable polystyrene (r-EPS) annually. Moreover, a facility for the chemical recycling of mixed plastic waste with an annual capacity of 40,000 tons will be established in Priolo (Sicily).
